Message from Mountain Fund to Janice Sacherer

Janice, If you can think of something we can do to help, let me know. We are a small organization, we don't have a huge pile of money (far from) but we do work to stregthen and support existing community groups. Thanks, Scott

Message from Janice Sacherer to Mountain Fund

Thank you! I have just read through your website and I'm sure that Rolwaling fits into your agenda, particularly since so many of your supporters are climbing organizations and so many climbers have worked with Rolwaling people as they have more Everest summits between them than any other community in Nepal. One thing that is encouraging, presuming that Tsho Rolpa does not break, is that some of the older summiters are planning on retiring permanently to Rolwaling after a few more climbs and all of the summiters are interested in developing Rolwaling in a more thoughtful way than happened in Khumbu. Much of their concern arises from the fact that Rolwaling has been a sacred valley since at least the 1300's, and is so mentioned in the Tibetan literature. They would very much like to promote it as a contemplative destination as well as a spot for climbing peaks and trekking. They have also had a long tradition of herbal medicines which I think could be encouraged.
